What is Vastu shashtra?

Vastu shastra ( pronounced as vāstu śāstra) is defined as the science of architecture and construction.

In vastu prayer is offered to Lord Vishwakarma as The God of structures and building, that we are your devotees. Please listen our prayer, make us free from all the diseases, give wealth and prosperity, and help the well-being of all persons and animals living in the house. 

How Vastu works? 

The meaning of Vastu is "Dwelling", which is concerned to be the home for God and Humans. Vastu shastra is based on concept of various energies that comes from atmosphere such as solar energy, cosmic energy, lunar energy, thermal energy, magnetic energy, light energy, wind energy etc.

What is the advantage of following Vastu?

While constructing structure, these energies can be balanced by following some thumb rules that can help in enhancing - peace, prosperity and success, in favor of its residents. 

If a house is made as per the Vastu shashtra's principles, the inmates enjoy all the happiness in life and are blessed by Gods. If a home is constructed against Vastu principals, it is supposed that the inmates can face to all sort of problems, worries and moreover no peace.

What are the fundamentals of Vastu?

The Direction are ruled by Gods:-

• North- Kubera- Finance
• South- Yama- Damaging
• East- Indra- Seeing the world
• West- Varuna- Physical
• Northeast {Eshanya} – Shiva
• Southeast- Agni-  Generating
• Northwest- Vayu- Advertisement
• Southwest- History
• Center- Brahma-  Desire

Vastu Purusha Mandala

The mandala is put to use in site planning and architecture through a process called the Pada Vinyasa. 
This is a method whereby any site can be divided into symmetric grids or modules or pada.

What considerations should be made while designing Home? 

• Doors of each room should be facing East and Doors should open inside the room (not outside).
• Total number of doors and windows should be in even number for each floor, but should not end in zero like 10, 20, 30. The width of the door should be half the height of the door. The door height should not be too high, too low, too wide or too narrow. The doors should be rectangular and square doors should always be avoided.
• Bedrooms should be in South and West directions.
• Placement of mirrors on South and West wall are inauspicious, you can put them on any other direction.
• While sleeping head should be in South or West but never in North.
• Pooja room should be in North East. All idols and photographs should be facing East or West.
• Toilet seat should be in North-South only. It should not be in East-West.
• Out houses should not touch the compound wall of North and East side.
• Stairs should always be in clock-wise direction.
• Anything underground should be in North or East.
• Anything above ground should be in South or West.
• Porch should not touch the North or East compound wall.
• Big trees should not be grown in North or East. They should be in South or West side of the house.
• Face East or North while reading or transacting any business deal.
• Face East while cooking, West is allowed if there is no alternative, but never face South while cooking.
• Ventilation should be looked after and good cross ventilation should be present.
• In bed rooms, always use bed of four legs only. Never use box type bed because it stops the air circulation under the bed which is bad for health.
• There should be no water body in front of any entrance door of the house.
• No room should be built under the stairs.
• The cupboard in the wall should be in the Southern or Western part direction of the house.
• The kitchen, grinder, fridge, shelf and other heavy items should be towards South and West wall.
